• New Web Developer starting this week: Brenna Williamson
•The Lake Placid Kiosk is installed and ready to go! It’s next to the restrooms in the municipal lot
•The updated Adirondack, USA Travel Map will be heading to the printer early next week
•Brand and website work is underway. Committee working together with ROOST team on “mood board” and rebranding of Lake Placid logo and website
•LEAF Fund: the Town of North Elba is awarding more than $370,000 to several local organizations through its North Elba Local Enhancement and Advancement Fund.

Working on green initiatives
-Clarkson Students working on getting credits to renew LEED certification. Currently have enough credits for silver, should be close to platinum after they finish. Will help get funding.
-EV infrastructure in town (Hannaford, the big municipal lot). Have a presentation on it today
-Smart metering – company has a piece that attaches to electric meters and can give more information, like peak times

HOLIDAY VILLAGE STROLL RECAP ~
People seemed to be enjoy the weekend. Santa had a great turnout on Saturday, as did the Jingle Bell Run. Movie had almost 250 people. Ornaments and beanies were a big hit. Let us know if you have any feedback from the weekend!

ROOST hosted a successful Total Eclipse Task Force meeting with over 30 participants on the call. We are excited to continue to work with towns throughout the Adirondacks on advancing their plans.

ROOST Awards: ROOST has received two awards from New York State Tourism Industry Association (NYSTIA) in a ceremony that took place during the organization’s 2023 annual meeting in Rochester earlier this month.

The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism received the NYSTIA “Excellence in Tourism Marketing Campaigns, Projects and Programs: Creative Use of Data to Drive Success” award along with the “Excellence in Tourism Stewardship: Shaping a Better Future” award. NYSTIA’s “Excellence in Tourism Marketing Campaigns, Projects and Programs: Creative Use of Data to Drive Success” award recognizes ROOST for its “Seasonal Abandon Site Emails” campaign.

ROOST Team:
-Lake Placid Visitor’s Service Center was booming this past week! Over 420 people on Saturday alone!
-Fall is officially at PEAK! ROOST and I Love NY have been busy promoting the leaf-peeping season on a joint yearly effort
-Hannah (ROOST Group Sales) was just in Florida at a TEAMS conference with ORDA and the Adirondack Sports Council promoting the region for future events.
-Aurora (Content Team for ROOST) was in Washington, DC for the Content Marketing World conference and came back with a lot of ideas and inspiration!

2 Water bottle filling stations installed near the public bathrooms – 2 more left to install. The location allows them to be used all year

Looking for a short-term solution to fix the sidewalk near the beach house that is crumbling

Police – welcomed Catherine Valentine to the force last week. She used to be a parking attendant. The current parking attendant is doing great. Also looking to hire another full-time and part-time attendant.

Loss Prevention – some businesses seeing an issue with organized theft lately

IRONMAN
Local contact for Ironman: Ironman Lake Placid has established a community relations coordinator and hotline to assist with training and race-related issues. The community relations coordinator is able to assist with quickly mitigating challenges for community members and businesses as they arise. Businesses and community members should use this if someone has a question about getting to work, is in need of an escort because they live on the race course, an issue presents itself, etc.

September Power Outage
National Grid has confirmed a power outage for the 12946 zip code on September 6, 2023 starting at 10pm, ending September 7, 2023 at 6am

Paving behind because of weather. Will be behind more now with flooding issues

Electric power work was going to pause for July & August but they saw how much work needed to be done so will continue on good days

The water plant is online now. Price came in more than originally thought, but grant funded. New sewer plant next.

garbage situation is improving. Also doing a great job keeping the public bathrooms clean.

The village has a scrubber they’ve been using to clean the sidewalks (gets ice cream and such off)

OTHER~

Light Pollution concerns. Lake Placid is a big bright spot in the Adirondack Park. Working on ways to reduce light pollution. A lot of places leave lights on 24 hours a day. Consider turning off when the store is closed, or using timers.

Cambria Hotel taking reservations for November 15. Website should be up early fall.

• More signs for Main Street coming (on back order): no smoking, parking, etc.
• Currently no parking enforcement person on Main Street, but police are writing tickets

•Eileen Mowrey-Floss Introduction. Lake Placid and Whiteface Region Manager. Catherine will remain in the role of Community Liaison
•Solar Eclipse Community Call Wednesday (5/10) at 5:30pm. Must pre-register. “Total Eclipse of the Park”
•Major Event Economic impact study presentation will be on May 23, Email to come
•Adirondack Day in Albany was Monday, May 8. ROOSt coordinated to highlight all the Adirondacks has to offer to the elected officials
•Thank you to the LPCA for a great ROOST social last week. Please consider attending in the future for presentation, scope of work, and mingling
•Conferences:
May 2-4 was Child Passenger Safety with 400 attendees
May 17-18 Adirondack Research Consortium. 125 attendees
May 21-24 New York Rural Waters. 600 attendees
June 18-23 SUNY Technology Conference. 550 attendees. Will be looking for dinner options
•Reminder: Community Day is June 4th 1-4pm
•Starting to plan for 4th of July. Looking for additional committee member
•Lodging Property meeting with ORDA about upcoming events – email went out
•Second Google Audit webinar will be May 27th. 9am and 3pm option

•Dock Doctors will be putting the new docks in the week before Memorial Day. Pre-built so should be a quick process. Will not stay in during in the winter, so need to find a storage area
•Hoping line striping will start this week
•No Smoking signs are up on Main Street. Will be a loose enforcement right now

STUDENTS WORKING THIS SUMMER
Keith Clark gave students a questionnaire on what kind of work they wanted to do this summer. A misconception that they don’t want to work, but many do. Will share with businesses when done

FUTURE MEETINGS
Plan is to keep alternating morning and evening meetings. No more Zoom for morning meetings

OTHER
•Cauldron at the horseshow grounds needs repairs. Have $20k for repairs to the base. Needs much more repairs, but the extent is still unknown. Group has made a formal plan to make a park around it.
•FISU cauldron was vandalized (blue stuff broke off). Will be fixed and put up somewhere.
•Adirondack Rail Trail Association has an opening for a Lake Placid Business Member. If interested reach out to Matt@highpeakscyclery.com
•Streetart crosswalk project will start this month. Will be painting two crosswalks on Hillcrest.

Will be hosting 4 workshops to go over Google Optimization results with businesses: how’s presence, make sure everything is up to date, are you missing info/photos/etc. Meetings will be 4/26 & 5/17 at 9am and 3pm. More info to come from ROOST

Attended American Bus Tours and New York State Travel & Adventure Shows. Will be attending the Ottawa Travel Show, Adirondack Sports & Fitness, and Adirondack Day in Albany

Waster water output is not up to standards – received $6.4 million grant for updates. Total updates around $10.5 – 11 million. Work to start this spring

Will be doing an audit of the current signage. (permanent signage not up yet) Seeing what is up, is it confusing, etc. Striping will be done this spring

WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES DEBRIEF + FEEDBACK: taking what we learned to improve future events
Clarification: Main Street closure needed to happen for security

Event was scaled back some due to people/delegations who didn’t show up

Managing expectations

IDA GRANT DISCUSSION: recommendations on how the program could be more impactful and beneficial to more businesses If the structure was improved (Had to attend a four hour class on a Saturday to apply for grant)

Feedback: More notice/communication

More options; Saturday for four hours doesn’t work for a lot of businesses

Will probably be another round of grants if all the money is not given out

OTHER
Whiteface Club is having a fundraiser for Lisa G’s TUESDAY, MARCH 28, 2023 AT 5 PM – 8 PM

They will have several raffles to win some amazing prizes, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, live music with local artist, Scott Sileo, and a cash bar. All raffle ticket proceeds will be donated to the staff at Lisa G’s. If you would like to donate a raffle item please contact Cassie Hogue at cassie.hogue@whitefaceclubresort.com.
