• The new Lake Placid website is complete and live! https://www.lakeplacid.com/
• ROOST is participating in an agritourism networking event hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension on Monday, May 19, focused on strengthening the agritourism industry in the North Country. ROOST will be presenting on marketing support and collaboration opportunities.

• The Olympic Authority has announced that Skate America will return to the Olympic Center in November 2025. This competition is one of the key events used to determine the U.S. Olympic figure skating team. You will remember this one has a big impact on businesses.

VILLAGE UPDATES ~ MARC
• Plan to redo bathrooms in lower lot- only one bid came back (over budget). Looking for other options. Staircase needs to be rebuilt, maybe new paint. Looking into Main Street fund from when parking prices increased
• Checked in with Mike and meters are working correctly
• Electric rates (workshop today) – get a certain amount of hydropower then goes to open market where we bid against others which is why it’s so high (can’t be negotiated)
• Have extra bike racks – if you have an idea on a good spot for them, let us know!

• We hosted Snowtrax, a Canadian snowmobiling production company to film two long-form travel itineraries. One will feature the Adirondack Rail Trail, while the other will feature a ride through Newcomb, Indian Lake, etc. This is an ILNY matching funds campaign. check out the video they have done in the past
Dan Kelleher, ROOST CEO is representing ROOST and Essex County on the North Country Regional Economic Development Council (dedicated to economic development in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties) Meetings began last Monday.
• MJ and Michelle attended the Adirondack Climate Conference at The Wild Center last week. The goal is to address climate challenges and opportunities in Northern New York.
• SEO Snapshot: So far this year Lake Placid has seen 93k sessions (of the total 236k sessions) come from search, which is a 4% increase from last year. Here are some of the top searches:
 – Toboggan: two of our top queries are looking for information on the toboggan chute. In the last four weeks this page has seen a 46% increase in clicks to bring in nearly 2,500 sessions
– Dog Sledding
– Hockey Tournaments and events
– New page: 3 months in and so far it’s brought 650 sessions from 11k impressions. Of those, 450 sessions from 6.5k impressions came in the last four weeks.
– Events: Lake Placid’s events page is the second most popular landing page right now.
• Fun Idea to promote: 12am-6am Total Lunar Eclipse Friday, March 14th. Witness the Lunar Blood Moon over the Adirondacks on March 14, 2025. In the early morning hours of March 14, 2025, the Adirondacks will be treated to a breathtaking celestial event—a Lunar Blood Moon. As the Earth moves between the sun and the moon, its shadow will cast a deep red hue over the lunar surface, creating a mesmerizing spectacle in the dark Adirondack skies. Lunar Eclipse Timing: Begins just before midnight on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Maximum eclipse occurs around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025

  • A total of 734 surveys from residents and business owners, completed between October 7 and November 16, were included in the results, with a 4% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.

• Committee is meeting on this. Topics that have been mentioned include:
  • Short-term workforce housing
  • Lighting (Dark Skies suggesting changes, enforcement)
  • Sign Code
  • Looking for some LPBA members to form a sub-committee that can attend these meetings and discuss

OTHER
• Community Connectivity Committee – working on connecting people – how to get people from Rail Trail to town; linking John Brown Farm to Heaven Hill

• Membership Dues: $40 if paid by 3/31, $50 after that. You can pay by check or PayPal. Please fill out a form regardless of how you pay (even if you have been a past member)

• April Mixer: looking for volunteers to host an evening social on 4/8

  • Ironman: want to shorten section on River Road – possibly bring race to Main Street. Would require the street to be closed to cars
  • Main Street Mile the Friday before the Marathon

• Canadian Travel Initiatives (from ROOST)
In-Market: As we all know, “Word of Mouth” is one of the most effective forms of advertising. Right now, we have the opportunity to ensure that Canadian visitors who are still visiting have the best possible experience and leave eager to share how welcoming Lake Placid and the Adirondacks were.
  • Bilingual posters and window flyers are currently with the printer and will be distributed this week.

  • Small Canadian flags for counters are available for businesses.

Canadian Advertising:
  • Testing and tracking different messaging for our spring travel and spring ski campaigns. Insights gained will inform summer ads launching shortly.
  • Launching a Canada-specific landing page for ad campaigns. We will do ongoing testing and performance monitoring to adjust the content accordingly
  • Golf ads are getting ready to start. This has traditionally been a strong Canadian audience. We will be working with lodging properties on golf/summer/ fall travel packages

New Audiences:
While we continue to market to Canada, we are proactively preparing for shifts in Canadian visitation.

We’ve identified key attractions that are popular with Canadian travelers and are developing campaigns to attract new audiences and keep visitor numbers strong.

Ottawa Travel Show: Attending the weekend of April 12-13, 2025. Any special offers/packages/etc.

ADK Winter Pride: You can participate! Adirondack Winter Pride weekend is taking place March 7-9, 2025, with activities planned throughout Lake Placid and Wilmington for LGBTQ+ residents, visitors, and their allies. Organizers are encouraging businesses, restaurants, hotels, civic groups, individuals, and others to consider participation through sponsorships, events, and special promotions.
