• Bike Jam Friday, September 27th at Mid’s Park & NBT Lot. Stunt shows and demos in NBT lot – means NBT will have closures. Spring Street will be playing at 5pm at Mid’s Park
• Construction on the bathrooms in the NBT Lot will start the week after
• Working on a new scooter law

• New questionnaire for visitors and business owners. If you haven’t done so yet, please take it. Some main things people are asking for:

        -Main Street Event for UCI Mountain Bike World Series: This event is going to be a great one, an idea to bring the major event to the Main Street area. Leisure Travel Study: This survey analyzes non-business travel to Lake Placid, Essex and Hamilton counties, along with the adjacent communities of Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake. Key findings include:
    -Expenditure levels in 2023 continued to climb to the highest levels reported over 20 years of surveying, with average party spending at $491/day.
    -Total estimated trip expenditure was $1,768; slightly higher than $1,697, reported in 2022.
    -Visitation by travelers from within New York state rose slightly from 69% in 2022 to 70% in 2023.
    -Visitation from the Northeast states, excluding NY, remains consistent at 18% of respondents.
    -Visitation from outside the Northeast US decreased slightly to 7%, with the majority of those from the southern states.
    -Canadian visitation continues to rebound.
    -The 2023 survey also analyzed the impact of travelers on local lodging properties. Hotels and motels remained the most popular overall lodging choice (42%), with significant growth in reported popularity in comparison to the last several years, when it ranged between 38%-40%. Reported stays in short-term rental lodging dropped very slightly to 17% (from 18% in 2022).

• June occupancy tax was up 8% over last year
• Newly Secured: 2026 Porsche Parade with approximately 2,000 attendees. A large gathering of Porsche car owners for the Porsche Club of America. June 12-20,2026. They will have various activities and parties throughout town and the surrounding areas including a car show, autocross race, kids activities, 5k run, sim racing, hospitality area, golf, pre-planned driving trips, etc. More details will be forthcoming as they dive into the planning process for area-specific activities in 2025
• Visitors Services – ROOST will have a presence at the Adirondack Day at the Saratoga Race Track which will take place on August 16. We will be attending with other counties that make up the Adirondack Regional Tourism Council (aka Visit Adirondacks)
• Wilmington Mountain Bike Festival is returning for its seventh year! An exciting three-day celebration of biking, community, and outdoor adventure. Taking place from August 30 to September 1 at Wilmington Recreation Park, the festival is set to be a highlight of the season for mountain biking enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Expect some LP business from this event

• New bathrooms will go in the NBT Lot. Temporary trailer bathrooms will be available during construction
• Bottom lot closure was approved for the BMX event. Marcy will be open and used to enter and exit the parking lot. Lot planned to close at 12 pm and events will be at 4 pm & 6 pm
• Free 15-minute parking is now available in the app and pricing fixed

ORDA UPDATES ~ Megan
Tickets launched for Adirondack Winter Invitational. Teams this year are the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Providence College, St. Lawrence, and Clarkson
• Jim Breuer will be performing at the Olympic Center on December 13. Presale tickets can be purchased at the box office, with online tickets going live on August 16 at 11 am

• 4th of July: Please help spread the word – contact Catherine@roostadk.com to sign up to participate in the parade. 5pm beginning on Main Street (by post office), ending at Saranac Ave. Ribbons will be given to the best in show floats. Quiet Zone (no honking, revving, sirens) again this year from EMS to Saranac Ave. Emcee at Mid’s Park. Live music in Mid’s Park 1-4pm & 7-9pm
• Community Day – thank you to everyone who came out. What a day and very successful event. Next meetings are already in the works for 2025
• Road to Paris Scavenger Hunt – more details to come, but idea is that ROOST and Olympic Authority will host a town-wide scavenger hunt to locate Olympic mascots throughout the village
• Ironman Dine Around – returns for 2024! An email has gone out to all restaurants in LP, Whiteface Region, Saranac Lake, Keene, and Keene Valley. Everyone has the option to opt in or out of this voucher program. All Ironman participants receive vouchers in their welcome bags. The vouchers are $25 and treated like cash (no change given). Restaurants turn into ROOST for payment
• Battle of the Cones – returning this summer. A battle to find the best cones in the Adirondacks! Make sure you vote (when time is right) to bring this award to Lake Placid!

• New Lake Placid Logo launched!
• NPT patches and stickers for businesses to sell: A reminder that the Adirondacks will be celebrating 100 years of the Northville-Placid Trail this summer and we have a limited edition anniversary patch and sticker available for local businesses to sell. The wholesale proceeds go towards future trail improvements on the NBT and businesses get to keep the profits from their retail sales. Wholesale price per patch: $4.50 | Suggested retail per patch: $8.50. Wholesale price per sticker: $1 | Suggested retail per sticker: $3

• Increase in parking enforcement – 2 full-time and 1 part-time attendant. The new full-time guy, Mike, is a retired police officer. Very by the book, but also very helpful. People are encouraged to use the app (it will give you alerts when your time is almost up and gives the option to add more time.) If not using the app, make sure to put ticket on dashboard so he can see you made an effort and will be a little lenient. Spots from the arena to Central Garage are being enforced now
• Signage that was taken down during construction still needs to go back up
• Paving will hopefully start soon. Two big projects include Hilcrest & Victor Herbert
• Beach volleyball and pickleball courts are out by the lacrosse fields

• Lake Placid Community Day: June 2 | 1-4pm | Horse Show Grounds. Volunteers of the Year have been chosen. Free to all those who live and/or work in Lake Placid
• 4th of July Event: Live Music (1-4PM with Nubble, a bluegrass band) 7-9PM LP Sinfonietta. Still looking for a marching band for the parade. Contest complete with trophies for 3 different categories. Call for parade participation! Send anyone interested to catherine@roostadk.com
• Marketing: New Guide, New Logo, New Website Design. The Lake Placid Guide proof is being reviewed and will to print Friday. New Lake Placid logo is complete and will presented on June 10 at the ORDA/ROOST Social. ROOST presented the website design to the committee on Tuesday

Zartico:
We pride ourselves on being a data-driven organization. ROOST started working with Zartico in 2022 to gather new, advanced insights into visitor travel throughout the Adirondack region. Our goal with the data is to enhance destination marketing strategies, which aligns with our mission of responsible tourism management and sustainable community development. By leveraging advanced location and spend insights into visitor travel, we aim to effectively manage tourism, optimize marketing efforts, and ensure that the influx of visitors is balanced and sustainable. This approach not only benefits the community and region by fostering responsible tourism practices, but also supports local businesses by providing insights to enhance their services.
Eclipse Update:
Hot Line: ROOST will man a hotline that will be available for any questions and concerns. 518-621-3682. Community items: eclipse signs, glasses, eclipse “insider” cards, stickers, and Adirondack, USA maps.
In Lake Placid, the Visitor’s Center will be the primary pick-up location for residents and visitors looking for eclipse glasses.
Reminder on messaging for the eclipse: we are committed to language about sharing information and what people need to know – we are not actively advertising to attract more people.

Food pantry/thrift store – being built at Shipman Youth Center where basketball courts are. Prefab building hopefully going up by fall. Trying to get new courts – maybe on Mc Kinley St or Hillcrest

Parking permits ($150) – price going up to keep with inflation. Haven’t had an increase since 2016. Talking about at next Village Board meeting

ECAC’s – two-year extension. Will know who is coming after this weekend. Around 2500 tickets sold

Eclipse Events – pre events Sunday. Viewing at Oval (no charge + free glasses) will have food trucks, and will show video from a clear spot if raining here. Whiteface offering a $50 ride to Little Whiteface. Will also have live music

• ROOST is preparing for the Adirondack Day, May 6, 2024 event. The mission of the day is to raise the New York State legislature’s awareness of what comprises a living, breathing, and working Adirondack Park
• We have the following writers visiting Lake Placid, ORDA venues
      – Catherine Arquilla, freelance, is working on a story for Everett Potter’s Travel Report about Lake Placid (will also be pitching GoNOMAD)
      – Claire Volkmann, freelance for Cosmopolitan and AFAR
      – Shayla Martin, freelance for Hemispheres (United Airlines’ in-flight mag)

• The ROOST team will take the first look at a draft of the possible/new Lake Placid Brand next week

• Getting feedback that they aren’t accessible and don’t care. Not true! They want to hear from you if there is an issue.
Any bad behavior can impact participation – they will kick out teams/players/families, but they need to know when it happens, not after the team has already left ( most have matching team gear and credentials so you can at least find out the team and they can go from there)
• Please make sure you know what group is actually in town – get calls on weekends when CANAM isn’t even here

Other
Check Fraud: local business owner had 3 checks stolen from the mail, altered, and attempted to be fraudulently cashed. Happening down in Albany when the mail is sorted. Postal Inspector is involved now. Be vigilant when reconciling bank statements double checking that the vendor is actually being paid.
